Dog Walking

I normally walk dogs in small groups of up to 5 in rural locations, allowing dogs to be safely let off the lead and run around, sniff and explore an interesting and stimulating environment. Dogs can also be kept on lead if that suits them better but I do require them to walk loosely on lead. I always have treats in my pocket to reinforce good recall as well as plenty of poo bags.

I collect dogs from their home, load them into a secure cage in the car and drive somewhere when I know we will enjoy walking. It’s one dog per cage unless from the same household, or very well acquainted.

I am canine first aid trained and always carry a first aid kit in the car. This allows me to provide emergency care before getting to the vets.

On hot days I carry a doggy water bottle and make sure everyone gets a drink mid walk. I will also stick to walks where there is a suitably safe river to cool down in, as well as plenty of shade.

During particularly muddy conditions I have a portable dog shower in the back of the car to wash off the worst of the mud, I then give dogs a good towel down. If you have a hose pipe you are happy for me to access to properly hose your dog down please let me know. I always aim to return a clean and dry dog but occasionally this is a challenge!

I do ask that your dog can walk with a loose lead if they need to be kept on lead, especially if a large dog, if they pull hard and continuously they can damage my joints. I am also not the largest person at 5″2 and I need to be able to safely restrain 4 dogs on lead. If they pull a little when they’re excited but I can let them off lead and they have good recall and stay close, that’s perfectly fine.
